Our

Impact.

In the 10 years since our founding, KCL Womxn in STEM has grown into one of the most diverse and impactful societies at King's College London, with our mentorship, schools outreach and student ambassador programmes being standout initiatives.

Each one of these programmes aims to champion and empower young womxn in STEM, whether it be providing individualised career resources via our 1-1 mentorship scheme, conducting training workshops through our student ambassador programme or inspiring girls in Year 8-11 to gain confidence in STEM subjects as part of our schools outreach programme talks and workshops.

Schools Outreach Programme

Women are still underrepresented in STEM: only ~25% of the UK STEM workforce is female, and interest often drops during secondary school.

The WiSTEM Schools Outreach Programme delivers free workshops and presentations in state schools, connecting pupils in Years 8 - 12 with university STEM role models and introductions STEM concepts. â€‹â€‹

Our workshops and presentations cover areas such as CAD (Computer-Aided Design) and 3D modelling, robotics, physics, app design, coding, and different career opportunities in STEM.

The programme runs in November, and in January until March.

Educators are welcome to contact us to arrange workshop/presentation sessions.

The WiSTEM Schools Outreach Programme has been running since the 2024/25 academic year, in that time we have greatly expanded our growth and reach

In 24/25, we delivered 11 workshops and presentations across 5 London boroughs. A year later, we have delivered 27 sessions in 12 London boroughs.

We have also increased the number of KCL student volunteers this year.

What do girls in Years 8 - 12 think about the programme?

“Very nice and helped me understand more about STEM, and the career options”

Student Ambassador Programme

The WiSTEM Student Ambassador Programme is open to university students studying STEM degrees at King's.

The programme aims to provide WiSTEM ambassadors with:

  • The exclusive opportunity to run their own event as part of the offical WiSTEM calendar.

  • Access to workshops in leadership, events planning, marketing, and sponsorship, led by the WiSTEM committee.

These workshops aim to equip our student ambassadors with a broad skillset that will allow them to create and run their own initiatives and organisations in the future.

In return, we ask our ambassadors to promote our events and initiatives to their peers.

Mentorship Scheme

The WiSTEM Mentorship Scheme is a 6-month, 1-1 scheme that pairs STEM students at King's with a mentor (either a professional or academic) working in a field of their interest. The scheme runs from October - March.

The mentorship scheme began in the 2023/24 academic year, and is now in its third iteration.

Beginning with 50 mentor-mentee pairs, involvement by students and STEM professionals has doubled, with the scheme growing to over 100 mentor-mentees pairs in the 2025/26 cycle.

"It was a really worthwhile experience for both parties as we both learnt a few things from each other. I was also able to help my mentee secure a short work experience at my workplace. Based on the feedback and card she gifted me, I know she learnt a lot about engineering and found it very valuable.” - Mentor from 24/25

I think this program is very important and I hope it withstands the test of time since I believe this program has the chance to create an impact to many generations of women. - Mentee from 25/26

Collaborations

We hold some of the biggest collaborative events within King's and beyond.

The STEM Ball is our largest collaborative event, with nine core collaborating societies and 12 marketing partners involved. The STEM Ball is held in March and welcomes over 400 STEM students at King's to a celebration of their achievements.

In October 2025, we also held the first iteration of Grow Your EcosySTEM, a networking x Ideathon event with six other STEM societies, namely KCL Robotics, Electronics, Engineering, Tech, Neurotech, and Womxn in Engineering.

Our collaborations stretch beyond King's. This year, we have collaborated with University College London's Women in STEM Society (UCL WiSTEM) and Imperial College London's Women in Science, Engineering, and Technology Society (IC WSET) on several events, including our Galentine's Day Crafting held at King's.
